Connect Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop connects directly to finlight using the MCP (Model Context Protocol) standard. Setup takes about 2 minutes.

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Open Claude Desktop Settings

1. Launch Claude Desktop on your computer
2. Click on the menu icon (three lines or gear icon)
3. Select Settings
4. Navigate to the MCP Servers section

Step 2: Add the finlight Server

1. Click "Add Server" or the + button
2. Enter the server URL:

3. Click Connect or Add

Step 3: Authorize with Your API Key

1. Claude will open a browser window
2. You'll see the finlight authorization page
3. Enter your API key from the finlight dashboard
4. Click Authorize
5. Return to Claude Desktop - you're now connected!

Connect ChatGPT

You can connect finlight to ChatGPT by creating a Custom GPT with an Action.

What You'll Need

• ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise subscription (required for Custom GPTs)
• finlight API key from your dashboard (Get one here)

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Create a New Custom GPT

1. Go to chat.openai.com
2. Click Explore GPTs in the sidebar
3. Click Create to start a new Custom GPT
4. Give it a name like "Financial News Assistant"

Step 2: Configure the Action

1. In the Configure tab, scroll to Actions
2. Click Create new action
3. Set up authentication:
   • Authentication Type: OAuth
   • Authorization URL: https://mcp.finlight.me/authorize
   • Token URL: https://mcp.finlight.me/token
   • Leave other fields empty

Step 3: Add the API Schema

Paste this schema in the Schema section:

Step 4: Save and Test

1. Click Save to create your Custom GPT
2. Open your new GPT
3. When prompted, authorize with your finlight API key
4. Start asking about financial news!

Troubleshooting

"Connection Failed" Error

• Check your API key - Make sure it's valid in your finlight dashboard
• Try reconnecting - Remove the server and add it again
• Check your subscription - Some features require a paid plan

"Unauthorized" Error

• Your API key may have expired or been revoked
• Generate a new key in your dashboard and reconnect

No Results Returned

• Try broader search terms
• Check the date range - very recent news may take a few minutes to appear
• Verify the ticker symbols are correct (use standard symbols like AAPL, not "Apple")
